"It's a talk I almost never wanted to give, because talking about art is like talking about kissing, and talking about Christian art is like talking about people of faith kissing."
Only some Christian artists can relate with that one! Still the best foundational talk on Christian faith and art I've ever heard!
There are tropes such as "I'm not a Christian artist. I'm just a Christian who happens to be an artist". Or "It doesn't matter what you paint, as long as you do it well, because there is no such thing as Christian art. But that is lazy, because for some of us, Christianity and art are so important that its intersection goes straight to the heart.
It's easy to love the world. God told us not to love the things of this world. But do you see the world as God's creation - something real, not just a metaphor (gnosticism)?
This talk addresses a lot of misconceptions about Christian art, uses Bible stories to remind us of what is real, and challenges us to question why we make art. I believe this talk can also speak to non-believers as well as non-artists.
